Making Paper Flowers With Cricut
Cliff Notes:
- Which paper? Any card stock seems to work just fine. There are specialty papers that make much prettier flowers, but to start - grab a pack of card stock on sale. Recollections paper from Michaels seems to be a favorite. For the smaller flowers, anything over 65lbs seems to be a lot harder to roll.
- How much paper? A LOT. The large paper flowers look best when really full - lots of layers. Exactly how many sheets will depend on exact size and design.
- Tip - just cut the petals by hand. As much as we all love that cricut, unless it's a fancy petal, cutting by hand is SO much faster. Use cricut for the centers and leaves and fancy cuts.

This was posted on a facebook group and it appears to have come from pinterest, but I don't know who to give credit for it, and can not find a link for it. Its' a great example of which shape petal you want for each look.
Each "row" of petals appears to be roughly 2 inches larger than the next, working out.

Another pinterest find, with a link that does not work for me to credit it properly.
This is doing the cuts by hand, butat the top of this post I explain how to do this with cricut. Then for a variation, on section 6, offset the fold, so there is about an inch that is not a double layer. It will give more of a spiral to the center.
Smaller Paper Flowers
These are much smaller than they look in this photo... but I made a much larger one by ungrouping the file, hiding one, then choosing select all and delete. Unhide the one. enlarge to 11.5, cut two. Resize to 10, cut two more. Resize to 6.178 x 6.789 (that size fits two on one 12x12 page) and cut two more. Then for the center, I made one of the "normal" sized ones from the original template.

I enlarged these and made them just a bit bigger. This pattern calls for floral wire and floral tape - both can be found at the Dollar Tree. The leaves are to be made on their own stems, but I put one set on the same stem as the flower. Of all the patterns I've tried so far, this one is my favorite.

I cut one using the cricut, then found it was really just much quicker to cut the petals by hand. You can cut 3 sheets of paper at once by hand. I did not use the largest petal in this template, I started with the second petal, and I cut 6 of each size.
For the centers I really love the cricut. To make the center:
To make the centers, I created a rectangle 11.5 x5.5 . Then I created a score line, leaving space at the top and bottom of the rectangle. Change the score line to cut, and duplicate until you have a row of single cut lines. I like to cut this out on metallic papers. Then fold in half long ways, but offset. glue along the solid edge. Then you can either wrap this around a half of a styrofoam ball, or just wrap it together... I've done it both ways. For these, I just wrapped them tightly without the styrofoam.

For the center, I used this:
Cut 4 of them, at 5x5
Then I used the rolled rose template here:
and placed that in the center of the 4 black spriggy things.
The gold center in the blue flower is a variation on the black center in the flowers above. To get that swirl, simply fold "offset" - so that an inch or so is not double. Then wrap around half of a Styrofoam ball. Templates for the Daisy and fringed black flowers are below.
